The Poet’s Brain has been on hiatus for the past couple of months but we are back to Enjoy the Holidays.  Come experience a Winter Wonderland  at the Laguna Beach.  Ice skate, climb an iceberg or just come inside the Poet’s Brain for candle light and fireplace lit to receive your own cup of hot coca.

The BeatNIk Was a Hit at The Poet’s Brain!

Well last Wednesday’s Show was a first for Laila and The Poet’s Brain!  Raayne Jaxxon is on sabaticle and the “Reign on the Mic” open mic show is going to take on a new face. 

Laila, just coming out of her Poet’s shell was thrust into the roll of MC in Raayne’s absence.  We started our first second Wednesday of the month with “Beatnik Night”, the poetry was phenomenal!  Practically everyone in the room participated!

There were multiple musical mingus’ to accompany your poetry, few used the bass but Laila gave it a whirl.

We had tons of fun ranting and raving and plan to do yet another theme night coming soon at the Poet’s Brain on the 2nd Wednesday of the month 6-8pm SLT/PST.

Terios is the pseudonym for the brown girl multi-tattooed Southern author who currently resides in Atlanta, GA with her tattoo artist husband and 2 cats (one of whom likes to have his tail pulled vigorously). Multi-degreed and on the shy side of 40, she longs only to be an independently wealthy music librarian/voice teacher/gigging musician.

Connie Briscoe has been a full-time published author for more than 15 years, with six novels, one photo-essay book and one novella published to date. Her work has hit several best-seller lists, including the New York Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe, USA Today Weekend, and Essence magazine.
 
Her latest novel, Sisters and Husbands, was published in June 2009 by Grand Central Publishing (Hachette Book Group). It is a sequel to her first novel, Sisters and Lovers, which has sold more than 750,000 copies to date.

UNWIND MUSIC MONDAY

The first Monday of this month we experienced Jana Kyomoon’s lovely music for peace.  JaNa KYoMoon is the owner of Music Peace Park, hear the wonderful sounds of  Refelective music at the Poet’s Brain, every first Monday of the month from 6-7pm PST.  Her music is best described as rhythm mixed with melody, solo piano, triphop, jazz and improvized ambient synths.  You don’t want to miss it!  Here is a poem I was inspired to write during her set:

[As I walk into the Abyss
I see the thin cloud of midst
Passing my face
As my heart begins to race
Uncertain to what lies ahead
All the while yearning for something to be said

STORYTELLING – STORY QUEST WITH JENAIA MORANE

Every 2nd Monday of the month was such a delight.  She introduced a Quest Project that was really interesting.  Helping the “Blind” to experience second life.  Stay tuned for follow ups and more interesting Story Quest projects from Jenaia  every 2nd Monday of the month from 6-7pm PST.

STORYTELLING – FAIRYTALES WITH AIANNA OH!

Every 4th Monday of the Month from 6-7pm PST, we will be transformed from real life to second life in the Fairytale that Aianna brings.  She has written several real life and second life books about a mystical fairyland.  Aianna has infused her storytelling with excerpts from her book and poetry.  Talking blossoms, fairy dust and a rotating floral seat as she shares the adventures in her fairyland.

Woah! Last Friday’s show started off shaky, considering I was the MC for all of 15 minutes into the show! But LadySen showed up and showed out!  She was great as always and we had some new talent in the house, that shook us and took us to new places.

What’s Happening This Marvelous May on HNC Alley

 

The HNC Alley is excited to bring you a Marvelous May!  So much is happening this month. 

May 4th – For starters we had an awesome “Unwind Music Monday with Music from Jana KyoMoon”.  It was fantastic! 

May 11th – Our Storytelling will have a bit of European flair with Mr. Bramblewood, a show you don’t want to miss.

May 13th & 15th – Up and coming is our Open Mic with Raayne Jaxxon and LadySen Laval 2nd Wednesdays and 3rd Fridays.  Drop them a note to find out this months topic – hint: something to do with Spring!

May 25th – Join us for wonderful fairytales by Aianna Oh! At the Poet’s Brain from 6-7pm PST/SLT for Storytelling Night!

May 29th -Last but certainly not least, if you are in the state of New York, there will be a Live Party just for you happening in the “Skylight Room”.  This is for all the New Yorkers out there!  Coming to you from NY with Neo Soul, RnB, Jazz is DJ Marjorie Dibou!  We are about to do something at this party that we have never done before, we are going to raffle RL tickets to a Live concert in NY “Tribute to Prince” with BB King.  Tell anyone and everyone, you might be the winner.

As we sit back and experience the autonomic audible flow of the Poet’s Brain. These Makers of Verses will share their imaginative experession through spoken word, song. and music. We will have open mic, storytelling and music jam sessions.
